Some good news...we received a letter from the Infertility Clinic so rang them and now have our first appointment on february 1st. Can't wait :)
So what with the wedding and clinic appointments, it's looking to be a very good 2011.
Wishing everyone who reads a Happy New Year xx

Very slow going!
Sorry for not posting for a while, however there isnt much news to offer. The GP is proving to be incredibly frustrating; firstly by losing a set of blood test results, and constantly delaying the writing of a referral letter.
The latest 'hold up' is due to the fact that they need to do all sorts of check ups on Jilly this time. We do not really understand the reason behind this, except to, once again, slow down the referral process. So we have to wait until January to both go along to see the locum GP dealing with us. We have attended all of our appointments together so far and they have never asked Jilly anything, but after saying they had all of the information they need the last time we were there, they now want us to go in again.
As you can imagine, we are both getting quite annoyed and frustrated, but still determined to continue!

Blood test
I had my day 3 fsh blood test this week. The last time i had something like that was my blood test to confirm polycystic ovary syndrome. It was challenging to say the least as the nurse tried both arms and hands to get blood, but i wasnt giving any up for some reason! Towards the end i was feeling faint and ill, but at the same time really wanted the blood to be taken...unfortunately about 2mls came out and then i stopped bleeding...grrr! Anyway, i went back later on and another nurse caught 2 vials of blood in a heartbeat. So i have the bruises to show for it, but its just another teensy step towards baby-making :)

Baby steps
So after having a rather uncomfortable appointment with our GP we werent particularly positive that this route was going to be one worth following. He seemed very unsupportive and spoke to us as though we were stupid. He did, however, say that he would contact one of the gynaecologists at the fertility clinic to ask for advice. I received a letter a few weeks ago, saying that he had corresponded with the gynaecologist and was waiting for a response. At this point we were starting to have slightly more faith in the GP.
I was contacted last week to make an appointment, which we both attended yesterday. We were told that I would need a day 2 fsh blood test, a day 21 progesterone test, a clamydia test and a cervical screening. I have booked in for the clamydia swab, but will have to wait till next cycle for the blood tests, as I am already half way through one, and I am up to date with my cervical screens. Once all of the test results have come back the GP will then start the referral process to the gynaecologist at the fertlity clinic.
So we are very excited as this is definitely a positive step towards making our baby.

First Step
Jilly and I made the first step on our journey to become parents together this week. We went to the doctors to hopefully get a referral to the assisted conception unit at our local hospital. At this point in time we are keeping our options open as to exactly how we will consieve, however we want to include the clinic route, as I have polycystic ovary syndrome.
I think the biggest decision we've had to make is whether to use a known/unknown sperm donor. We have several gay friends who could be considered as possible donors, but we did not really want input from a man past conception. We have also found it hard to decide whether it is 'right' to bring a child up with no 'father figure'. Jilly's children go to their father's every other weekend and there is concern that our child will feel left out to not be going with his/her siblings. It is all very difficult, but there are plenty of male influences in our lives including our brothers, fathers and of course, Jilly's eldest son Daniel. Due to this i am not quite so concerned.
Anyway, the results of our consultation were quite positive, although the doctor was not sure about the referral process, so we are waiting to hear from them. So fingers crossed and i will keep you posted on our progress.
